Lok Sabha 2024: AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi retains his title of The Hyderabad Heart-throb
The Hyderabad Lok Sabha Constituency went to polls on May 13, 2024 with a voting percentage of 66.30% in the fourth phase. The Hyderabad Heart-throb Asaduddin Owaisi triumphed in a tough challenge against the BJP’s Madhavi Latha.
BJP’s Kompella Madhvi Latha faced defeat at the hands of the 4 times MP from Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi, failing to put an end to his winning streak from his Bastion.
BJP’s Madhvi Latha is admired across the communal lines in Telangana and by men and women both.
The Hyderabad Lok Sabha Constituency
The Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency is home to seven seats in the Telangana Vidhan Sabha, namely Malakpet, Karwan, Goshamahal, Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura, Bahadurpura.
The Goshmahal Vidhan Sabha Constituency is the only constituency with a BJP representative whereas the other six have MLAs from Owaisi’s AIMIM.
It is known to house a Muslim majority that amounts to a 59% of the total number of eligible voters.
The INDI bloc has multiple times raised the apprehensions that Madhavi Latha’s challenge before Owaisi allegedly led to polarization of the Lok Sabha Elections of 2024 in other constituencies of Bharat as well.
Asaduddin Owaisi
The MP from Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi is named among the 500 Most Influencial Muslims in the world. In the Indian Politics, he is known as the voice of Muslim Aspirations of Hyderabad. He is allegedly criticized for having inherited from the Razakars, the once pro-partition Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, which shifted to a progressive and peaceful stance to evolve as AIMIM under Asaduddin’s father, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi. He is often criticized for his fiery speeches with alleged religious inclinations.
However, Asaduddin Owaisi emphasizes on Communal Harmony in India.
Asaduddin Owaisi is known to run the Owaisi Hospital and Research Centre which is believed to be established by his grandfather Alhaj Moulana Abdul Wahed Owaisi. The hospital functions in the field of Medical Education, Research and Medical care.
His hospital has never been reported to have discriminated among the Hindus and Muslims while serving them.
Asaduddin Owaisi has been a fast bolwer at the University as well as State level in the under-25 category.
Madhavi Latha
Madhvi Latha is the founder of Lopamudra Charitable Trust that caters to the needs of the underprivileged, particulalrly, through healthcare, education and livelihood programs.
Latha’s Charitable Trusts are known to provide financial assistance for surgeries and other medical procedures.
She was also appreciated for homeschooling her children to the prestigious IIT.
Other than Lopamudra Charitabe Trust, Kompella Madhvi latha also runs a trust call LathaMa.
She is renowned for promoting the Hindu Culture as she has also been a Bharatnatyam Dancer in the past.
Although the issues in Hyderabad Constituency stem from the BRS’ alleged Mal-Governance, Owaisi had to face criticism for the following issues before he Retained Hyderabad Lok Sabha Constituency

UNEMPLOYMENT
Figures from the District Wise Labour Force Participation Rate (per 1000) for persons aged 15 years and above show that out of every 1000 Females in the Hyderabad District 238 were employed in urban areas whereas only 720 males were active in the workforce from the district, that is also home to Asaduddin’s Lok Sabha Constituency.
The district wise Worker Population Ratio from the Hyderabad district stood at 691 per 1000 males and 173 per 1000 females as per the Periodic Labor Force Survey
The District Wise Unemployment Rate from the Owaisi Bastion stood at 40 per 1000 males and 272 per 1000 females.
HEALTH INDICATORS
Similarly the number of female births per 1000 male births in the Hyderabad district stood at 844 in 2021-22.
Households with any usual member covered under a health insurance/ financing scheme (%) was an unimpressive 48.9% in 2021-22.
The Civic Issues
The other issues are civic issues centered at encroachments, garbage dumping and increasing pollution, particularly in the Musi River. The river is alleged to have stooped to a level of a narrow stinking canal with sewage water and industrial effluents being freed into the river. Slums have propped up across the old city and have led to massive encroachments in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha Constituency.
The After-math : The Allegations of Bogus Voting
In the run up to the Lok Sabha 2024, the issue of bogus voting became the bone of contention between Madhavi Latha and Asaduddin Owaisi. Six Lakh bogus voters were alleged to have made their way to the polling list, which account for an astonishing 30% of the electorate.
